The church dates back to the mid-18th century when a group of settlers gathered for a conference in what is now Grayson County, Texas. They asked the Methodist that a church be established in the area. In 1892 the group built one of the largest and most awe-inspiring houses of worship in Texas. It soon became a place of sanctuary for local settlers to worship and spead to word of god. In 1976 the Texas Historical Commission designated it as a landmark. Through the years the Texas Climate has taken it’s toll on the building. Now the masonry exterior has the possibility of colapse, the bell tower is in need re-constuction due to rotted wood and there were many other repair issues. This is a project with many challeges to over come. All of the stained glass windows are original glass and are priceless and irreplaceable. All materials have to be approved by the Historical Commission, all while the facility has to be clean and safe each Sunday for worship. Julian P. Barry used its 65 years of experience and knowledge to accomplish this difficult historical restoration. They met all of these challeges and exceeded the owner’s expectations. Now the community of Gainesville Texas, has it’s 1892 historical house of worship, with it’s beauty and grandour once again.
