This class will explore the various effective measures for securing your facilities.

Fundamentals of Facilities Operations and Maintenance
In addition to the traditional responsibilities of maintenance and upkeep of the church, today’s facilities managers must also keep abreast of many new technologies. Attend this class to learn tips for implementing the building blocks of successful management of your church and grounds.

Rebuilding the Walls: Visionary Strategies for Facilities Renewal
Many churches worship in facilities that are adequate in terms of size for their ministry needs, but are either ‘frayed around the edges’ physically, poorly designed, or not organized strategically to help the church grow in their current context. This class will help you develop a new vision for you current facility that will lead to new strategies for increasing effectiveness in ministry and anticipating opportunities for future growth.

25 Steps to Creation Care for Churches
There is a growing public expectation that buildings must be crafted and managed to be kind to the environment and sustainable for future generations, which can be viewed as a metaphor for grace. In making decisions about the built environment, churches can effectively model a Creation caretaker’s role in the way they design, build and manage their facilities. This session will explore basics of environmental design; LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and Energy Star certification for new and existing buildings; Strategies, pitfalls, and benefits in adaptively re-using existing structures as church facilities, with case studies; 25 practical ways that churches can implement practices and model Creation Care to their communities in their existing buildings.

ENERGY STAR Tools and Training for Energy Stewardship
In 2007, ENERGY STAR began offering online training for the first time, customized for houses of worship and allowing “benchmarking” and tracking of energy use with our free “Portfolio Manager” software. Portfolio Manager will generate annual reports on electricity, natural gas and water use and savings, dollar savings and prevented climate change emissions. They have also initiated in 2007 an online training class called “Energy Savings 101.” This presentation will preview and summarize these and other ENERGY STAR tools.

Multi-Site ‘Lite’
Many denominational churches have 50-year-old facilities and traditions. They struggle to stay relevant in an increasingly fragmented society. We will explore a trend called Multi-Site ‘Lite’ that does not require a permanent infrastructure. These churches do not wish to overburden an already stretched budget and volunteer base. Temporary operation and maintenance of community facilities presents a unique set of challenges. Find out what works and what doesn’t.
